Re-iterates that 'Employment-Led' for Weston-super-Mare be retained as the priority focus of the Core Strategy.

Supporting a Successful Economy - Agreed. Although there will always be a degree of mis-match between housing and employment, in pursuit of higher levels of self-containment and reduced levels of out-commuting it is ESSENTIAL that future housing development is preceded and supported by the provision of additional jobs.

Ensure housing provision follows on the coat-tails of employment provision NOT vice-versa.

I agree with the employment-led strategy to be focused within the Gateway area.

Under item 3.298 the council recognises that the economy of North Somerset and creating jobs within North Somerset are key priorities and aims to help create 29,500 jobs over the period.

Item 3.308 looks to build up an Employment Investment Fund with contributions from, for example, Section 106 payments. If the Regional Development Agencies are disbanded, some of their funds should be diverted to local authorities. An Employment Investment Fund is an excellent idea.

CS20 seems to be less detailed than the sections dealing with retail and tourism (CS21 and CS22). Although these areas are important, they tend to be low skilled and low paid. There needs to be more emphasis on high skill, high reward jobs in CS20. One way to achieve this is to establish links with nearby universities, Bristol, West of England, Bath and possibly Cardiff (see below). Research projects at these universities should provide a good source of 'spin off' technologies.

Suggested Amendment: Policy to emphasise the need for employment led proposals at the Airfield and Gateway sites, over and above those on the Seafront.
