We support the Council in encouraging the delivery of a mix of housing types within existing and future communities in North Somerset. Due to a number of factors, including the pressure for higher density development through national planning guidance, there has in recent years been the construction of a considerable number of new apartments at the expense of traditional family homes. A policy objective to address these concerns is therefore entirely appropriate in order to increase accessibility to the housing market, provide
equal opportunities for people to live in certain areas and facilitate the creation of mixed and balanced communities.

To achieve this objective, the Council should ensure that appropriate sites are identified for the various housing types where provision can be made for the needs of the future population. This includes meeting the needs of families and that of the aging population.
