North Somerset Core Strategy: Examination of Remitted Policies

The Council has prepared a proposed position statement in respect of the next stage of the Core Strategy. Public consultation took place between 29 November 2013 - 17 January 2014 and You can view comments recieved

The Core Strategy is the strategic planning policy document for North Somerset and was adopted in April 2012. Following a legal challenge Policy CS13 relating to the district housing requirement needs to be re-examined.  If the housing target is increased then this may have implications for a number of other policies which have also been sent back for examination.  The Inspector appointed to undertake the examination has indicated that in the first instance, only Policy CS13 will be re-examined with any consequential effect on Policies CS6, CS14, CS19, CS28 and CS30-33 being re-examined at a later date should this be necessary. No other Core Strategy policies will be re-examined.

On 12 November North Somerset Council considered the up-to-date evidence and agreed a proposed change to Policy CS13 to increase the number of houses required from 14,000 to 17,130 dwellings 2006-2026.  This new evidence needs to be subject to public consultation before the hearings commence.  This will allow interested parties to make representations on the Council’s proposed position, the changed National Planning Policy Framework guidance, the changed strategic context arising from the revocation of the Regional Strategy, up-to-date population forecasts and any other relevant changes to the evidence base.  All comments and representations received will be considered by the Council and copies forwarded to the Inspector who will arrange the examination hearings.
