General comment with support to joint approach to planning, but concern over the ecologically sensitive location of some of the proposed SDLs and related road infrastructure. Extremely important that the North Somerset Bat SAC SPD is used to shape planning decisions across North Somerset.

1. North Somerset Local Plan 2036: Issues and Options Document North Somerset Issues Q7. Do you agree with these or are there other challenges or issues which we have not included and how might the Local Plan address these?

  • Comment ID: 21314273//9
We strongly agree that the increased pressure from recreation arising from the proposed development will be a key issue but we think the level of this risk is sufficiently highly that we think that the environmental implications of the development on internationally protected habitats should also be recognised here.

1. North Somerset Local Plan 2036: Issues and Options Document Potential new policy areas Q48. Do you have any views on our intended approach to flood risk?

  • Comment ID: 21314273//39
We would strongly support the adoption of stronger policy to support in decision making regarding flood risk. In particular, we would urge the Council to encourage the use of upstream thinking and natural flood management as ways of delivering multi-functional green infrastructure to support with reducing flood risk while also providing recreation opportunities, supporting biodiversity and making use of natural processes to help clean water.
